 In 2007, Sophie Lancaster and her boyfriend were violently attacked by a gang of five boys simply because of how they looked. The brutal assault left them both unconscious, and while her boyfriend eventually recovered, Sophie remained in a coma for 13 days before tragically passing away on 24 August 2007, at just 20 years old. Sophie’s Mum, Sylvia, founded the Sophie Lancaster Foundation to advocate for the alternative community and ensure alternative subculture hate crime is recognised and its victims find justice.
